In early November, 1963, The Beatles played the Royal Command Performance in London with the Queen Mother and Princess Margaret in the audience.

Before closing their set, John introduced Twist and Shout:

For our last number I’d like to ask your help. The people in the cheaper seats clap your hands. And the rest of you, if you’d just rattle your jewellery."

John

John also overdid the bowing as a joke, because we never used to like the idea of bowing; such a 'showbiz' thing.

George

Paul also remembered the Queen Mother clapping and asking,

“Where are you playing tomorrow night?” “I said, ‘Slough,’ and she said, ‘Oh, that’s just near us.’”
