The original, by Little Willie John, is an R&B masterpiece by a superb, late-lamented singer, and I bet that's why John Lennon wanted to cover it. It wasn't released when recorded, probably because the song's message didn't fit in with the hippie-dippy-happytone prevalent in 1966.”
