“I was sitting at the piano when I thought of it. The first few bars just came to me, and I got this name in my head... “Daisy Hawkins picks up the rice in the church”. I don’t know why. I couldn’t think of much more so I put it away for a day.” Paul McCartney

The Eleanor Rigby video is available exclusively on @AppleMusic and iTunes this week.

The film is a sequence originally used in the movie Yellow Submarine.  Released in July 1968, its surreal, ground-breaking, visuals were the work of art director Heinz Edelmann.

"Revolver" was the seventh album from The Beatles. The first recordings released from these sessions was the single "Paperback Writer" and "Rain" and those tracks gave an indication of what was to come.

In Memory of Allan Rouse

news

0 1

Our thoughts are with the family and friends of Allan Rouse, who passed away yesterday and in particular Fiona his wife who cared for him with such tenderness and consideration following his illness.

Allan (on right) is pictured here with the engineers at Abbey Road who worked on The Beatles remasters.

Allan joined Abbey Road studios in 1972 and during his time there made an invaluable contribution towards preserving the music and legacy of The Beatles.  He worked on all the releases with extraordinary dedication and loyalty.

We will also miss his acerbic wit that was actually part of his charm.  Allan did not suffer fools gladly but once you earned his respect he could not have been more co-operative and helpful.

Allan was a true friend of the band and of everyone at Apple, and will be remembered with great affection by those of us who were lucky enough to spend time working with him.

From Paul, Ringo, Olivia, Yoko and everyone at Apple.

It was with great sadness that we learnt of the passing of Robert (Bob) Balser on January 4th aged 88.

Bob along with the late Jack Stokes were the two immensely talented Animation Directors on the 1968 film Yellow Submarine.

In 2012 Bob generously gave us his time and expertise as a consultant on the restoration of the original film. A delightful man, he was considered a true friend of Apple.

We send our sincere condolences to his wife Cima and all the family.

Congratulations to Ringo on his induction at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame!

"As all the other drummers say, he just is something so special. When he’s playing behind you, you see these other bands, they’re looking around at the drummer, like, is he going to speed up, is he going to slow down? You don’t have to look with Ringo.

It’s a great honour for me to be able to induct him into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland tonight!”
