Get Back To Mono: Beatles’ Recording Engineer Ken Scott On The Best Way To Hear The Fab Four

news

0 0

by Jordan Runtagh (@JordanRuntagh)

An Excerpt from VH1.com

The Beatles In Mono is perhaps the most crucial Beatles release for those who were not privileged to live in a time when the four Fabs roamed the Earth. For a start, just use your ears. Far from a relic, the sound is more alive, full, and frightfully contemporary than ever before. And that’s not just our opinion- it’s also the opinion of Ken Scott, the music industry great who got his start as the Beatles’ recording engineer. Prior to his groundbreaking work with a list of legends including David Bowie, Elton John, Jeff Beck and Supertramp, Scott was in the room when some of the Beatles’ classic recordings were being made, and had his hand on the fader when the original masters were created. Who better to say how these records are meant to sound?

Paul McCartney calls on people to back #MFMclimatepledge ahead of the UN Climate Summit on Tuesday 23rd September 2014.

With just days to go until the UN Climate Summit in New York, Paul McCartney has called on people to back the Meat Free Monday Climate Pledge campaign.  As well as being responsible for a huge chunk of global greenhouse gas emissions, meat production requires increasingly unsustainable levels of precious resources – land, water and energy – and is a major contributor towards global environmental degradation.

#MFMclimatepledge aims to get people to commit to a weekly meat free day so that global leaders can see the magnitude of support and enable them to take the idea forward.  Please take a couple of minutes to visit http://pledge.meatfreemondays.com, pledge to go meat free for one day a week and share the idea with others.

The Audiophiliac chats with the project's mastering engineers to get the inside scoop on the Beatles sound.

"I bought the US Beatles Capitol Albums sets when they were remastered in 2004, and compared those discs with the 2014 remasters. Frankly, there's no comparison; the new ones sound better. They're more fleshed out, less compressed, and clearer."

Paul: "There were millions of kids at the airport, which nobody had expected. We heard about it in mid-air. There were journalists on the plane, and the pilot had rang ahead and said, 'Tell the boys there's a big crowd waiting for them.' We thought, 'Wow! God, we really have made it.' "
