“They’ve got something! From Liverpool, I hear, of all places.” “From Liverpool uber alles!”
They leave their Cavern Club and within months they take the ascendancy in the British pop world, and start to live the life of Riley in London. They play the Palladium, the Royal Albert Hall, The Royal Variety Show, sing Moonlight Bay with Morecombe and Wise, give a spare hit to the Rolling Stones, play hundreds of concerts in Britain, nip over to Sweden, invent Beatlemania, record I Want to Hold Your Hand (their 4th British number one in a year) and, as if in a dream – while their conquering Paris – the record goes to Number One in America three weeks before the Ed Sullivan Show in New York.
If there had been no Beatles, no one would have had the imagination to invent such a story.

“I am a thirteen-year-old girl, but I like Beatles music. I mean, seriously, if the first Beatles songs you've ever heard were from the radio, there is a very slim chance you like their looks...unless radios have screens. Admittedly, I do agree that sometimes they do look rather dashing, but sometimes I think a few fanatics are going a bit overboard. But really, the who,e success story of the Beatles is really their personality - from what I'd heard that was why George Martin signed them. And they really are quite charismatic. Even now, nearly 50 years later, I can still feel their magic through their music - the Beatles are still so alive and real to me. Now THAT is the Beatles are about! (BTW, iPads are pointless. Tablets are cooler.)”

“But there's a good side too: their cuteness SOLD. If the millions of average kids who weren't that musical hadn't swooned over the Beatle's pretty faces, the band would never have become that popular; there wouldn't have been any fad. Without the fad and the frustration it brought, the band would maybe not have had the pressure to make more imaginative music and Sgt. Pepper, for example, would've never been born. And if the Beatles had never become so famous and legendary and things, you and me maybe would've never had heard about them! So even the shallowest fangirls are not entirely a bad thing. Let all the flowers bloom!”

“Still about the "cuteness" argument (sorry to continue it, but anyway)... At least in the Beatlemania years, I think, many of the teen fans (not all, of course) liked the band mainly because it was in and the boys were hot. The papers wrote about the Beatles every day, mostly about stuff like George's favorite foods, and interviewers nearly never asked them about their music. And at the concerts, like we all know, you couldn't heard anything because of the screaming. So, I suppose, to many of the "fans" back then, the music itself didn't mean very much. To the band, of course, all this was very frustrating. (continues...)”
