The Beatles Arrive on US Shores, 1964!

PAUL: There were millions of kids at the airport, which nobody had expected. We heard about it mid-air. There were journalists on the plane, and the pilot had rang ahead and said "Tell the boys there's a big crowd waiting for them." We thought 'Wow! God, we have really made it.' I remember, for instance, the great moment of getting into the limo and putting on the radio, and hearing a running commentary on us: 'They have just left the airport and are coming towards New York City...' It was like a dream. The greatest fantasy ever." NEIL ASPINALL: "The receptionists at Capitol Records would answer the phone "Capitol Records - The Beatles are coming!"

Vast number of press followed their every move. After a press conference at the airport, a publicity shoot in Central Park, The Beatles attended rehearsals for the Ed Sullivan show, a performance that was to change everything.

Their appearance on the Ed Sullivan show is considered to be a milestone in TV history. It was widely reported that no major crime was reported during the 8-9pm broadcast, as 73 million viewers watched their performances of "All My Loving", "Till There Was You", "She Loves You" and "I Want to Hold Your Hand".

Concerts at the Washington Coliseum, Carnegie Hall and another appearances on the Ed Sullivan show (in Miami) followed.

Agreement with all of you :p the ones who say the BEATLES are bad don't know what they're talkin about! The Beatles are just the best, because their songs are just so easy, but brilliant!

I remember seeing the News reals from CBS news of lads landing and the crowd. Then the Ed Sullivan show. I was hooked on The Beatles. The Beatles changed rock-n-roll music forever. The Beatles are still my favorite group to this day.

I fully agree GeorgesGirl, I'm 14 and it ****s going to school everyday and hearing the crap music that plays every morning in the background for the announcements. I wish that it wasn't so hard to be different from everyone, if you don't like the rap and other crap they listen to, you're a target for hatred. <3 But the Beatles pull me through <3

Yes they are awesome but not a lot of people know that at the time this was a group that was just trying to get into show business and they wanted to be a part of that whole scene. What I think is extraordinary is their seamless move into the best Rock and Roll band in the world. And no band can knock them off their perch!

I would have loved to be there at the U.S Airport when The Beatles arrived. I think nobody ever caused such emotion to people.
